Stallholder who stays at rental flat donates satays to needy families while ex-MP Amrin helps as satay assistant – The Online Citizen Asia

SINGAPORE — Former Sembawang GRC Member of Parliament Amrin Amin wrote on his Facebook page yesterday (24 Nov 2022) announcing that he had pitched in as a satay assistant, helping to barbeque satays for needy families.

“1,000 satay for needy families at Blk 39, Bendemeer Rd,” he wrote. The satays were apparently provided by a stallholder Abang Sam.

“Abang Sam shared with me that satay is quite expensive for many needy families. He wanted to treat them,” Amrin said.

“It’s his way of sharing blessings for his successful satay stall at Blk 17 Upper Boon Keng Food Centre.”

The MP added that he is heartened by Abang Sam’s kindness.

“He does not make much. He’s still staying at a rental flat in Chinatown,” Amrin disclosed. “But that has not stopped him from helping those facing more difficult times.”

Amrin further added that Abang Sam reminded him of “our obligation to help others”.

“People of any means can help. But those who are better-off can and should do more,” he said. “I’m glad to pitch in as a satay assistant.”

Amrin Amin is a lawyer and was the MP representing the Woodlands ward in Sembawang GRC from 2015 to 2020.

He served as Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Health concurrently between 2018 and 2020, as Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs between 2015 and 2018, and Parliamentary Secretary for Health between 2017 and 2018.

During the 2020 General Election, he contested in the newly carved out Sengkang GRC together with Former minister, Ng Chee Meng, Former Senior Minister of State for Transport of Singapore, Lam Pin Min and a new candidate, Raymond Lye, but failed to get elected after losing to the Workers’ Party team.

Certainly, Amrin would be better-off than most Singaporeans. As an MP, he was making $192,500 yearly and as Parliamentary Secretary, his basic annual salary would be close to half a million dollars.

Two months after his defeat at the election, Amrin was appointed strategic director of PBM group, a robotics company in Singapore and also a non-executive adviser position at ADERA Global.

Nevertheless, he was glad to “pitch in as a satay assistant” to assist Abang Sam.
