Took bribes on record: Trinamool’s Abhishek Banerjee on ex-colleague Suvendu

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee slammed BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari during a public rally in Haldia on Saturday and said Adhikari took bribes on record.

“One person has destroyed the work culture in Haldia and looted you all. He has taken bribes on record,” the TMC leader said.

He said, “One who vandalised the idols of Vidyasagar, jumped on his feet to save himself from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).”

Haldia is considered to be Suvendu Adhikari’s bastion. Banerjee termed the leader of the Opposition to be the ‘wall’ that did not let the people of East Midnapore reach out to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

“In 2011, we won with our ideology and Mamata’s face,” said the CM’s nephew.

“Post 2011, a wall was made so that a connection between us and people is not made. Today, I broke the wall,” the TMC leader said.

Taking a jibe at ex-colleague Suvendu Adhikari and said, “The leader joined the party whose ideology termed the revolution of 1942 to be unlawful.”

Talking about his ED summons, the TMC MP said, “I was summoned to Delhi, I went and faced the ED/CBI. I didn’t bow down to pressure like you. I know how to answer you in your language.”

“I will not let outsiders come and work for eight hours and get paid extra in Haldia. People of Haldia will be given first preference,” he said.

There are people in the judiciary who are giving every case to the CBI, he said. “Some are even staying investigation of police in murder cases,” he said.

“We have Haldia municipal corporation elections, ones who have been with TMC since day one and not left TMC in their dire situations, will represent us,” he said.

Talking to party workers, he said, “I can promise you that ones who have come from the CPM and BJP will not dictate terms to ones who have been in TMC since its inception,” he said.
