Delhi Police arrests dreaded gangster of Lawrence Bishnoi Bishnoi-Kala Jathedi gang

Delhi Police, on Friday, arrested an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi Bishnoi-Kala Jathedi gang, who was wanted in scores of cases.

Delhi Police Special cell has been working to apprehend the wanted criminals of the notorious Kala Jathedi-Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang since last few months.

By Tanseem Haider, Arvind Ojha: The Special-cell of Delhi Police has arrested one of the most wanted petroleum product smugglers and robber of the notorious Kala Jathedi-Lawrence Bishnoi gang named Sunil Banda. He was wanted in scores of cases.

Delhi Police Special cell has been working to apprehend the wanted criminals of the notorious Kala Jathedi-Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang since last few months. On October 6, shooter and robber of the gang namely Rakesh aka Raka was arrested. During his interrogation, the name of Sunil Banda was revealed. Sunil used to help the accused financially and was also involved in an extortion case of Karol Bagh in which the accused persons had demanded Rs. 5 crore from the victim.

On October 17, secret information was received by the Delhi Police team that Sunil Banda would be coming to Burari in the evening to meet one of his associates. It was also informed that he was in possession of illegal firearm.

Accordingly, a team was constituted and deployed in the area. Subsequently, a raid was conducted by the SWR team and accused Sunil Banda was apprehended from Main Burari Road, Burari in Delhi. On search, one semi-automatic high quality pistol of .32 bore loaded with 05 live cartridges was recovered from his possession.

During interrogation, accused Sunil Banda disclosed that after dropping out in class 8th, he worked as a helper to a jeep driver for about two years and also learnt driving. However, in order to earn quick money, he along with his associates Inder, Dinesh, Deepak of Nahra village, started committing criminal activities.

In 2005, he along with his associates looted Rs 5 lakhs from a petrol pump in Narela. They also stole one motorcycle and two country-made pistols for this crime. Thereafter, he along with his associates robbed a motorcyclist of Rs 1.5 lakhs in Sonepat in 2005 at gun point. After about one month, he along with his three associates robbed a bank in Panipat in 2005. However, when they were coming back after robbery, they were intercepted by police near Gannor. During the encounter, Dinesh and Deepak were apprehended by the police, while Inder was killed in the exchange of fire, though Sunil Banda managed to escape. Thereafter, he had got involved in a brawl at a wedding in Jhajjar, where he opened fire and was booked for attempt to murder by Jhajjar police.

In the year 2006, he was arrested by Crime Branch of Delhi Police and was lodged in Tihar Jail from 2006 to 2011. During his stay in jail, he came in contact with Rakesh Raka, Sandeep Kala Jathedi, Anil Karor, Naresh Sethi, Manjeet Malpur and became close to Kala Jathedi gang. Since 2012, he along with Rakesh Raka, Naresh Sethi, Jaibhagwan, Raju Bashodi has been involved in several incident of robbery.

He was again arrested by police and in 2016 in Jhajjar Jail, he met Dinesh Rathi, who was lodged in jail for cases of petroleum theft from pipelines. After coming out of jail in 2017, he along with Dinesh Rathi, Harish, Nepali Pipli and their other associates started stealing oil from oil pipelines. He was arrested by CIA, Bahadurgarh, but came out on bail after spending four months in jail.

In the year 2016, when he was in Jhajjar Jail, he met Dinesh Rathi and Harish, who told him that there was a lot about oil theft. After that, he met Nepali Pipli, Sonu Nara, Sandeep Nara, Monu Movilal and Lucky, who were the members of oil smuggling syndicate headed by Dinesh Rathi and Harish. He won their confidence and gradually started managing the whole syndicate with Dinesh Rathi. Deepak Rathi would procure all the information about the location of oil pipelines through Nepali Pipli, Harish used to do work of welding in the pipeline for fitting the valve. While locating the pipeline, they also took care of the fact that oil tankers could reach the location easily.

After that, they would conduct recce of that place for 4-5 days to know the time of movement of the people residing at nearby places. After that, they would come at the spot at night with tools for locating the exact place of pipeline would mark the place for digging. Next night, they used to steal oil after making a hole in the pipeline. The responsibility of selling oil was with Sunil Banda and Dinesh Rathi. They used to sell oil to Tinku and Jaykumar in Bahadurgarh and to Nikki, Desi, Amit and Pawan in Gurugram. After selling the oil, Sunil Banda along with his associates Dinesh Rathi and Harish used to give a certain sum of money to the other team members for each 20000 liter theft and the remaining proceeds from sale was distributed among the three. Sunil Banda used to arrange all the mobile phones, SIM cards for communication among the syndicate and they used to change mobile phones and SIM cards after every theft.
