How to Childproof Your Home

Whether you already have one or more small children or else are excited to announce the arrival of a new baby in the future, one of the most important things to do to ensure your children’s safety and security at home is to endeavour to make the entire house as child-friendly as is feasiblypossible.

With that in mind, continue reading to discover tips and tricks to make your home child-friendly and your children as safe as possible by childproofing your home.

Deal with the Electrics

A shocking number of babies and young children are regularly injured in accidents relating to all things electricity-based within the home across the length and breadth of the country and beyond.

If you are unsure as to what products are best for covering plug sockets and other wires that cannot be otherwise hidden away, it is strongly advised to contact one of the reputable and established electrical supply stores where professionals can fill you in on what is needed for your home.

Install Detectors

Another important addition to your home when ensuring it is as child-safe and child-friendly as possible is to install both smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Make sure there is a properly working smoke detector on every floor of the house and that they are situated near the bedrooms, and if you use any form of oil or gas heat, do the same with the installation of carbon monoxide detectors.

Locks & Covers

Regarding open doors and open cabinets, it is important to attach covers on the former and locks on the latter to prevent your child from trapping their little fingers in the openings of the doors or else harming themselves from the contents inside.

Covering doorknobs with covers makes it virtually impossible for even the shrewdest of children to work out how to operate and ensure to secure each and every cabinet that is sitting close or near to floor level with either internal latches or an external lock.

Window Guards & Baby Gates

A strong, sturdy and durablebaby gate, especially if you have a baby or even a young child or toddler, is the ideal way to ensure there are no incidents in and around the stairs area.

Any window guard you buy should be strong enough to stop a child from falling out or even onto the window yet should still be adherent to all legal regulations regarding fire standards and should not prevent the window from opening.

Fires & Ovens

An incredibly simple but at the same time exceedingly effective way of stopping your child burning or otherwise injuring themselves in and around the home is to invest in some quality stove and fire guards.

Install an oven guard around your stove and when cooking on the hob, always remember to turn the handles of the saucepans to the wall to make sure if your child does reach up to grab anything, the hot food and pans are firmly out of reach.
