Arkansas Online Casinos Authorize Mobile Sports Betting

The Arkansas Racing Commission has authorized mobile sports betting in the state, clearing bettors to place wagers on their smartphones and other devices.

The commission voted unanimously to approve the mobile sports betting regulations at a meeting on Thursday. The rules will take effect immediately, and mobile sports betting could launch next week.

The move comes just weeks after the Arkansas Legislature approved a bill authorizing sports betting in the state. Under the law, bettors must be 21 years of age or older and physically located within the state to place a bet.

The law allows for retail and mobile sports betting, but the racing commission’s rules only apply to mobile betting. The Arkansas lottery will oversee retail sports betting, which is still working on its own rules and regulations.

The law gives the racing commission the authority to issue up to four sports betting licenses to the state’s casinos in Hot Springs and West Memphis. The other two licenses will be awarded to Oaklawn Racing and Gaming in Hot Springs and Southland Casino Racing in West Memphis.

All mobile sports bets are to be placed through licensed operators’ websites or apps

Betting will be restricted within the state’s borders, and bettors will be required to register for an account and provide their name, address, date of birth, and Social Security number, among other information.

The rules also require operators to use geolocation technology to ensure that bettors are physically located within the state when placing a bet in all AR online casinos.

Operators will also be required to implement responsible gaming measures, including self-exclusion programs for problem gamblers.

The regulations approved by the racing commission are similar to those governing mobile sports betting in other states, such as Nevada and New Jersey.
